      The Festival San Remo has been running since 1951 and was the predecessor of Eurovision. Nowadays, the Italian Eurovision entry (when there is one) is chosen by the winner of the San Remo Festival and the event is televised all over Europe. Winners of the 15th festival were: Bobby Solo with "Se piangi, se ridi" and The New Christy Minstrels also with "Se piangi, se ridi." All singers came together on the stage at the end as presenter Mike Bongiorno bid everyone farewell.
      Also in attendance, but not making it to the finals were Dusty Springfield and Anita Harris. Petula's most vivid memory of the event was of sharing a dressing room with Dusty: "We were sharing a portable dressing-room in which the walls did not reach up to the ceiling, and the paparazzi were photographing us from over the top of the walls while we were getting ready for the show. Very bizarre!"

Christmas concert featuring songs sung by a wide assortment of 'European Divas.'



The annual Icelandic Christmas concert Frostroses (In Icelandic: Frostrosir), held in Reykjavik, Iceland, is one of Iceland's most cherished Christmas traditions. "Frostrosir" is the Icelandic term for the flower-like patterns that form on windows when frost is present. Begun in 2002, the event brings together well-known performers. Many of them come from Northern Europe countries.

In December 2006 a group of popular female singers from many different countries, named European Divas, gathered and performed on a concert at the Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik. The divas were Sissel Kyrkjebø (Norway), Eivør Pàlsdõttir (Faroe Islands), Petula Clark (UK), Ragga Gisla (Iceland), Patricia Bardon (Ireland) and Eleftheria Arvanitaki (Greece).

Petula Clark, who is by many regarded as the original European diva, sang Silent Night as special guest performer and also O Holy Night in the ensemble chorus.

This concert was broadcast on TV in Scandinavia on December 31, 2006 and released on a CD, including a DVD in 2007
