SWISS FAMILY CLARK

For Petula, her 100.000 villa represents peace and security. And now it's her grass that's always greener. . .

HOME to Petula Clark these days is a 100,000 24-roomed villa by Lake Geneva, in Switzerland--a place where she, husband claude Wolff and their two children can lead a Swiss Family Robinson life. Petula and Claude, who is also her manager, designed the villa. It took more than two years to build and furnish.

Within its shuttered walls is a mixture of electrical gadgets and 18th century furniture. To Petula, 37, the place represents the qualities all entertainers seek--peace and security. She has been searching for them since she became a star at 10.
Pet says, "I was just a robot. I was hired out, told to do this, do that. I obeyed because I knew nothing better."
The turning point came when she married Frenchman Claude. He helped change her image of singing sweet songs as "Our Pet" into that of an international star--with such hits as Downtown, Don't Sleep in the Subway, The Other Man's Grass is Always Greener.
Now Pet has peace and security--and the grass always seems greener at her villa by the lake.

Life for Pet is nothing without music. She tunes up in a room where the walls are covered with linen fabric.
