REVIEWS:
NOT TOP IN MY TALENT CHART
I don't care if Petula Clark is top of the charts. You'd have to be the paid secretary of her fan club to watch Petula on Tuesday night at 7.30 on Channel 7. I don't like her voice and I don't find her particularly talented.
And if you think Peggy Lee, Dean Martin, David Frost and The Everly Brothers do anything on the show to lift it out of the rut--forget it. They do themselves a disservice by being on.
But the production now that's another thing. Do you know that Petula changes the scenery electronically every time she sings a note.

A WEEK LATER, THE FOLLOWING NOTE WAS PUBLISHED:
A MATTER OF TASTE
By now you will have discovered that taste and discernment are not the criteria of criticism, nor is knowledge.
In short if the masses like it, it's good.
Petula Clark in her special last week is the case in point. I thought the whole thing, cheap nasty and annoying not like the girl singer. I did not think the comedians were particularly funny and gimmickry like flashing lights did not make production. How wrong I must have been, ever since the show hit the air TVW 7's phone has run hot with requests for a repeat.
EDITORS FOOTNOTE:
Petula was the highest rating programme in Perth last week gaining 56% of the available viewing audience. On national ratings for all capital cities, Petula was ranked 4th for the week.
